Tony Croatto - Jibaro (1982)

Tony Croatto, born in Udine, Italy 1940, Tony Croatto interestingly became an icon for Puerto Rican folk music in the later half of his prestigious 40+ yearlong music career. He fell in the love with the country after moving there in the late 1960s, putting out thirty solo albums, many of which paying homage to the traditional music and customs of the land. This song is called ‘Sereno’ and is lifted of Croatto’s 1982 ‘Jibaro’ release on Velvet Records. While the word “Jibaro” is traditionally used to describe the farmers of the Puerto Rican mountainsides, the word is also the name of one of the countries many folkloric musical genres, traditionally spreading messages about love, work, the countryside and celebrations. The word ‘Sereno’ in Spanish translates to ‘Serene’, and this song illustrates the lush imagery of Puerto Rican countryside through its tropical undertones and vibrant energy.
