About
You may find yourself here for a plethora of reasons. Perhaps you know me personally, or perhaps you stumbled across this in some obscure music-related research rabbit hole. In any event, I hope we share this in common - a deep, immense passion for music.
Hello, my name is Jayden (aka Sixpence) and my passion for music can not be expressed through finite words. For me it all began at age 11 with a Tupac CD, launching my imagination into the stratosphere to soar alongside mind-warping melodies and heart-warming poetry (and sometimes not so heart-warming, in Pac's case). In my teenage years I developed an insatiable hunger for hip-hop of all kinds, literally spending my life savings on CD's at the time (dumbass, still no regrets though), months before being introduced to Limewire... In any event, it was fair to say - I was, and still am - fully addicted.
I began collecting records in 2015 when I was gifted a record player by my then girlfriend. I was ecstatic, and I had been looking forward to sampling from vinyl ever since I had started to make sample-heavy hip-hop production years before. In receiving so, I was additionally gifted a few old records from my uncle, one of which was Deep Purple's greatest hits. Initially unfazed by its acquisition, I decided to play it out of an apathetic curiosity, only to find myself being utterly blown away by such songs as Child in Time and Demon's Eye. "YOU MEAN I LIKE OTHER KINDS OF MUSIC FROM HIP-HOP?!" This was the start of my larger, fuller musical journey.
Jazz, Rock, Soul, Funk - I love it all. When im not listening to or creating music, guaranteed I'm thinking about it. It guides my existence and allows me to fulfil my purpose in this world, both as a contributor and as a lucky member of it's audience. These days I am deeply into world music, particularly 70's Afrobeat/funk and Latin grooves such as Cumbias, Salsas and Bolero's. Apart from music, I hold a deep appreciation for history, philosophy and culture (majoring in the first two). World music reflects the nature and developments of mankind from all corners of the world, supplying an intriguing anthropological study in the historical and spiritual sense to say the least. This blog will explore all kinds of music, focusing on world music but also delving into classic albums and hidden gems across all spectrums.
I started to this blog for a few reasons:In my departing words, I would like to bid you welcome, my name is Jayden - and this is my blog. I hope you find some dope shit to spin at home or bump in the whip.
